Group calls Aquino a 'Butcher President'

Urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (KADAMAY) calls for justice for the slain security guard and other victims of a brutal dispersal this afternoon at the picketline staged by retrenched workers of Pentagon Steel Corporation in Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City.

According to reports, a truck was ordered to run over the picket line that caused the death of a security guard while goons threw rocks and acid to evict the workers from their picketline. The said security guard was run over by the truck on the torso, while two other guards had their leg cut. The truck dashed to runoff with the products inside the factory.

"Our members nationwide lament over the violence that erupted this afternoon at the picketline of Pentagon workers. Today is certainly among the saddest day in the history of trade unionism in the country, as President Aquino remains to be a real butcher of the workers and the urban poor," said Gloria Arellano, KADAMAY national chair.

"The incident this afternoon shows a complete picture of the urban poor under the brutal Aquino administration working in connivance with the big businessmen against the Filipino people in the name of profit," said Arellano.

Also earlier this month, a Pentagon worker Ricardo Gagap was arrested during a demolition operation in Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela City after he defended his homes. Other workers have also been arrested as Mariano Chan, the owner of PSC, together with the Philippine National Police and hired goons, started his brutal attempts to disperse the picketline staged by the workers in recent weeks.

"With massive retrenchment of workers and demolition of their homes, the government has forced the poor to live as stray animals. The public should not blame the poor, if sometimes, they acted and fought back as so," Arellano remarked.

"We call for justice for the security slain this afternoon, and his two other colleagues who will no longer be able to work after their legs were amputated," added the leader.

Soul-less Aquino administration

"Killing is a virtue of the Cojuangco-Aquino clan," KADAMAY said citing the bloody Mendiola and Hacienda Luisita massacres.

"We have lost 13 anti-demolition activists in the three years of the current Aquino administration, beating the record of any other presidents in the past," added Arellano.

Acording to group, the urban poor have lost any hope that the soul-less Aquino administration will ever look after their situation: jobless, homeless, and deprived of their rights.

"Only by ending the current system that is controlled by the big capitalists and landlords will the poor be able to redeem themselves as human beings, and shed light to their abject condition," the leader ended.
