PRESS RELEASE
24 January 2012
Urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) slammed a military report that says National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) Chief Consultant Jose Maria Sison will be back in the country soon from his self-exile in the Netherlands.
According to Kadamay national secretary-general Gloria Arellano, the unfounded contentions only speak of the Aquino administration’s rebuff of the peace process between the NDFP and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).
Arellano added, “The content of the military report is absurd and highly inconceivable, including the alleged accepting by Joma Sison of a cabinet position, as well as the integration of New People’s Army (NPA) members into the ranks of AFP.
“The report suggests the administration’s clear rejection of the demands of the people put forward in the Comprehensive Agreement on Socio-Economic Reforms (CASER), the meat of NDFP's proposal to the peace talk.”
Kadamay believes that only through the full-implementation of CASER, that is essentially the free distribution of lands to the landless and a national industrialization program free from the dictates of neoliberal policies, will the local crisis be resolved.
“The Aquino administration is evidently insincere and inept in addressing the worsening poverty experienced by millions of Filipinos,” Arellano said. ###
