As calls for President Benigno Simeon Aquino III’s resignation mount, urban poor sector to join their long-drawn demand for the stepping-down of PNoy in light of the Mamasapano carnage and the criminal neglect of the Aquino administration over their plight.

In time of their announcement for Aquino’s resignation this afternoon, a theater play of the biography of urban poor icon, Carmen “Nanay Mameng” Deunida will be staged.

Deunida was a renowned “Erap Resign” leader of the EDSA Dos People Power which dethroned the Estrada administration, and a staunch critic of the Arroyo administration. At the age of 87, Nanay Mameng never misses any chance to criticize President Aquino and play words with his name such as President Abnoy Sintu-sinto Aquino.

The event this afternoon will also be held to announce the urban poor’s participation in the upcoming rallies in time for the EDSA 1 Commemoration on February 25 and in Mendiola on February 27.

According to Carlito Badion, Kadamay national secretary-general, their group from different cities in Metro Manila as well as from provinces in the Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon will be mobilizing in thousands for the big protests next week at the EDSA Shrine.

The peak of their protest according to the group will be on Friday, February 27th, where they will March to the Chino Roces Bridge to press President Aquino into resignation.

Kadamay has been staging candle lighting protests in urban poor communities to call for the justice for the Mamasapano carnage. This also to invite more urban poor to join the upcoming protests.

"It is the best time for the urban poor to demand for the resignation of the Aquino administration and the installation of a transition council to replace the function of the president," Badion added.

The leader added that the widespread poverty in the country, due to chronic unemployment, depressed wage of workers and privatization of basic services, which are neoliberal dictates of US imperialism on the Philippine economy, can only be addressed by evicting the promoter of neoliberal policies from Malacanang.

Meanwhile, Badion added that among their sectoral demands on the transition council are immediate job creation, implementation of national minimum wage and wage increase, end to privatization of basic services including that of public hospitals, as well as, to eviction of urban poor from their homes and sources of livelihood, and making PNoy accountable for corruption on the billions of pesos of Informal Settler Fund and other presidential pork barrel. ###
