Militant urban poor group, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) will lead day-long protests against oil price hikes and demolitions tomorrow, in the eve of the 20th enactment anniversary of the Urban Development and Housing Act (UDHA). The said law, enacted on March 24, 1992 is being blamed to legitimize massive demolitions or urban poor communities in the country on its 20 years of existence.
Aside from issues of widespread demolitions nationwide, scheduled rallies tomorrow will also focus in opposing the series of price increases on oil and petroleum products, as well as other basic commodities and services. Kadamay will also call for the immediate junking of anti-poor policies like the UDHA, Oil Deregulation Law, the 12% Value Added Tax on oil, among others.
