Appeal for help from urban poor families ravaged by 'Ondoy'

UPDATE: 500 bags of food and relief goods were delivered to Phase 1-D in Kasiglahan Village, Montalban, Rizal in October 1, with the help of our partners in the Center for People's Empowerment in Governance (CENPEG), Mariners Polytechnic College, and volunteers from the College of St. Benilde. The next round of distribution is scheduled at October 8.

The Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) is appealing for help from our friends and kind-hearted individuals for the thousands of urban poor families ravaged by the typhoon 'Ondoy'.

Here are the preliminary data we gathered as regards the number of families in need of immediate assistance in our areas, as well as the number of lives lost.

1. San Mateo, Montalban, Rizal
2,500 families/10 dead

2. Kasiglahan Village, Montalban, Rizal
3,000 families

3. Lupang Pangako, Payatas, Quezon City
2,000 families

4. Litex, Quezon City
1,500 families

5. Waterhole, Payatas
1,000 families

6. Brgy.Pinyahan, Quezon City
200 families/3 dead

7. Brgy.Pag-asa (North Triangle), Quezon City
1,200 families

8. Old Balara, Quezon City
1,500 families

As part of the Bayanihan Alay sa Sambayanan (Balsa) effort by groups under the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan), Kadamay is mobilizing its membership for the delivery of immediate assistance and relief for poor communities affected by 'Ondoy'.
