The urban poor, most of which are unemployed and underemployed, will participate in the massive Labor Day protest to be led by the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) and Anakpawis Partylist.
The urban poor will continue to press for "the creation of secure, decent, and meaningful jobs, as well as government support for the unemployed and underemployed," says the urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay).
To illustrate this, the group will reprise their "nakedness as unemployment" gimmick, in which several members will march shirtless and barefoot, wearing "chains" around their necks attached to calls for jobs and government support.
"Unemployment is not merely the loss of one's capacity to sustain his needs -- it is also a loss of one's dignity," says the group.
