Over ‘electioneering and abuses’ of the military in urban poor communities
Group to picket Comelec once more, warns of a “fiercer” protest
Alarmed by the unabated activities of the military in urban poor communities -- of blatant and illegal campaigning against militant candidates and partylist groups, and harassment and intimidation of their organizers and campaigners -- the urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) once again pickets the Commission of Elections (Comelec) office in Intramuros, demanding an immediate probe.
The group will deliver a letter bearing pieces of documentation, including published reports, of these cases, and demand that a Comelec official personally receive these and address the rallyists.
“We have brought this to their attention before, and they have not listened. This time, we might try for a fiercer type of protest, if they will not address our concerns then and there,” says Carlito Badion, Kadamay vice chair.
