North Triangle residents, facing demolition, urge Noynoy: Junk QC-CBD project

March to Times Street set

MEDIA ADVISORY
for Tomorrow, June 7, 10:30 AM

Around 100 residents of Sitio San Roque in North Triangle, Quezon City, facing demolition under the QC-Central Business District (QC-CBD) project, are set to march to Times Street tomorrow where presumptive president-elect Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III holds residence.

According to Gerald Atayde, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay)-North Triangle spokesperson, this is to manifest directly to Aquino the residents' call for the project to be junked.

"Ito ay hamon kay G. Aquino kung tataliwas nga ba siya sa bulok na panunungkulan ng outgoing na administrasyon. Kaya ba niyang manindigan para sa kapakanan naming maliliit, laban sa malalaking negosyante at dayuhan na interesado sa proyektong ito?," Atayde said.

The QC-CBD aims to build a Makati-style business district in the area covered by the North and East Triangles, threatening to displace around 25,000 urban poor families. It is a national government project by the Arroyo administration and is considered a 'legacy project' of outgoing city mayor Feliciano 'Sonny' Belmonte.

March to Times St.: TOMORROW, June 8
March starts in front of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) office, North EDSA, 10:30 AM.
